Description

Fiber College celebrates fiber in all its forms. The fiber arts connect us to the natural world, time-honored skills, the global community, and to each other. Our annual gathering, the week after Labor Day, is an established feature of the Maine arts calendar and we are now offering immersive, small group workshops at our beautiful oceanfront campground and art facility in Searsport, Maine. We call our workshop series Touchstones because they speak to all that grounds us and give us a vision for the future.  Come and share our passion, unlock your creativity and make something extraordinary.

NEED TO CHANGE THE TITLE "TOUCHSTONES"

We truly believe that the urge to work with fiber is woven into our DNA.  Our early ancestors used their nimble fingers and creative minds to transform the fibers of the world around them into the tools, clothing, and food they needed for survival. Ropes, knots, nets, spindles, needles, and looms are some of the earliest human technologies. and also sources of pride, pleasure, and decorative invention that speak to far more than simple necessity. When we experience the warmth of wool, marvel at the delicacy of silk, the strength of linen, the colors of plants, and all the wonderful shapes and patterns at our fingertips, we connect not only with the natural world but also with all that it means to be human.
